Spice Cake Blog Post

The preparation for making our cake was actually very easy, the recipe was not a hard one to follow at all. There was actually a lot of ingrediants in the spice cake though, including a lot of dry and wet ingrediants. The process took quite awhile because I feel like although it was an overall easy cake to make it took a long time. Our cake took a long time to bake and we had a lot of bowls and silverware to make the cake because it seemed like we had to be constantly stirring things in different dishes while preparing other things which isn't a bad thing because the cake was delicious! The finished product was good espeically since the cake turned out very well done! Not burn't nor not too soggy. I enjoyed it a lot and it surprised me because I am not normally a pumpkin fan. The cake was baked all the way through and had a very strong pumpkin flavor that definately made you want to eat it sort of because the orange zest grabbed your attention very well. So the appearance was overall good, the flavor was very tangy, The fat content was probably not too bad it wasn't the healthiest cake but it wasn't loaded on sugar by any means! The shelf-life probably doesn't last very long because it's a cake and cakes do get moist i'd say if you are going to let the cake sit out atleast put wrapping around the cake to cover it up. And the last thing is the texture, which it had a very soft texture that was moist and warm and just tasted like cake, im sure we all know what that tastes like!

Blog Post 3

So far what I have read in this book has been pretty good. It's a bit confusing because it's all the recipes Gesine makes throughout working in her bakery, there very delcious looking recipes that is though because I myself will be making one of these for my class. I haven't decided which one yet though because they all look very tasty and are not the easiest recipes to make. I liked the book because I have always been interested in baking and Gesine does a good job at making her own recipes, and they were more of things I would like to make instead of actual "food." I recommend this book to anyone because it's very out of the ordinary and not something you expect and like to read most of the time. I enjoyed most of it because it didn't confuse me at all. A summary would basically just be the succesful business she runs in Vermont at the bakery she owns because she had left her sister in Hollywood because she wanted to leave the life of fame because it was overwhelming, and she was also very close with her sister most of the time. I actually liked the book a lot more so far since my previous post because I realized it's not all about the things you read in the book, but it's the importance, and I realized how important cooking was to this woman.

Discussion Questions:

What would it be like to leave someone you were very close with for a life of your own?

I picked this sight because looking at it I found it interesting because Gesine is a baker and this sight pretty much has a link to any baking ingrediant possible.

"My Life from Scratch" A book review by Haley V

The author of this books name is, Gesine Bullock-Prado

The copyright date is 2009.

I'm not really sure what to expect from this book because so far things I have read about it haven't really started clicking with food yet. I haven't read much so far and the book is starting to confuse me a little bit. So far in the book, I have learned about the main character her name is, Gesine. She talks about her husband a little bit, his name is Ray. She also has a very famous sister who lives in California named Sandy. It's very confusing because at the beginning she talks about a demon that comes to visit her when she's a little kid, than she just talks about her life pretty much. Hasn't talked much about her baking yet.

I don't like the book very much so far, because it's not what i expected and I don't like when it's not what i'm expecting because than my mind wanders off when i'm trying to read the book.

What do you think from the cover page that you would learn from this book?

Does this book appeal to you in any way? If so what ways?

What do you think the title means?

The link I got for a brief summary of this book is right here .. It's about all I could find!
